Where will you spend eternity?

Our brains can be easily fooled! (Don’t believe it? Simply google ‘trick questions’ to test your brainpower!) But if there is something no one cannot afford to be wrong about, it is God and where you will spend eternity.

We all have different opinions when it comes to the afterlife. But who is right? Can anyone ever know for sure? Well, the Bible (God’s Word) is clear on the subject.

Many think that the claims of the Bible are outrageous but consider the following. The Bible says that the reason we all die is due to sin. And we all have sinned! Haven’t we? We all use the lips that God gave us for His glory and use them to lie or take His name in vain (using it casually or even as a curse word!). We use the hands which were made to do what is right and use them to steal from others. We fill our eyes with lust and think that no one cares but God accounts it as if we have committed adultery in our hearts. God even sees our unjust anger towards others as murder! We even have a tendency to trivialise sin, but God is good and cannot turn a blind eye to any evil. The scariest truth of the whole Bible is that God is good. And the reality is that one day we will all face Him in judgement. All of our actions and inmost thoughts will be revealed, and God will do what is right. The Bible says that we all deserve God’s eternal punishment (hell) because we all have sinned against the Creator who is eternal.

But God, who is rich in mercy and abounding in steadfast love, intervened in history to save us from our sins. Yes! God promised a Saviour the very moment that the first man and first woman (Adam and Eve) sinned against God, and all throughout history, He continued to reveal more and more about this Saviour through many prophets. However, the time God promised came and the Word of God became flesh (a man) a dwelt among us. Jesus Christ, the Eternal Son of God, came to seek and save that which was lost by living a perfect life like no one ever has. He brought salvation by dying a cruel death instead of sinners in order to satisfy the wrath of God. But it didn’t finish there, Jesus rose again from the dead defeating death and was lifted into glory and is now reigning over all things. God made it possible for us to be reconciled with himself. This is great news! Though we were enemies of God, we can now know him through Jesus Christ who said: “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6). This great news is called the Gospel. However, the message of the Gospel demands a response. The Bible says that we must turn away from our sin (our old way of living) and turn to Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour by faith. We must confess our wrongdoing to God in prayer and we must place our full trust in Jesus who said “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?” (John 11:25-26). If you turn to Christ in saving faith, God will keep his promise forgiving your sin, removing all guilt and giving you a new life eternal in Him.

As mentioned earlier, if there is something you cannot afford to be wrong about, it is God and where you will spend eternity. Please, would you carefully consider the Gospel?
