Worship is not about traditions or rituals. It is not merely about doing things like kneeling, singing and raising hands—anyone can do that. Instead, worship is valuing and honouring God above all things from the heart. And yes, genuine worship does involve kneeling, singing and raising hands—not as a performance, but as a sincere response to God’s character and deeds. This is why true worship is rooted in the Bible. In God’s Word we learn what God is like, who He is and what He has done. This knowledge of God prompts us to adore Him. The Bible teaches us who God is (the Triune God—Father, Son and Holy Ghost), what He is like (Merciful and Gracious) and how we should worship Him (in Spirit and in truth, in and through our Saviour Jesus Christ).
At Halling Baptist Church we meet regularly to worship the Triune God. And we do so as families. We believe worship is for everyone, including our own children. This means that children remain with their parents during the main service or prayer meetings. We believe children learn how to worship by worshipping alongside their parents and the people of God. Learn more.

But we also fellowship. The grounding of our partnership and communion is our Lord Jesus Christ who died for our sins and rose again from the dead. To fellowship involves giving and receiving. We spend time together, pray for one another, encourage one another, share with one another, build one another up, and even rebuke and forgive one another.
“By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” – John 13:35.
Every week we enjoy a fellowship meal where we strengthen our love for one another.

Discipleship begins with sharing the good news of Jesus Christ, the Gospel. We regularly engage in street outreach, door-to-door and open-air preaching to share God’s love through our Saviour. We want every person everywhere to know that the Lord Jesus Christ is Lord and King. “God overlooked people’s ignorance about these things in earlier times, but now he commands everyone everywhere to repent of their sins and turn to him. For he has set a day for judging the world with justice by the man he has appointed, and he proved to everyone who this is by raising him from the dead.” – Acts 17:30-31

When a person believes, the Bible teaches he or she must be baptised. To be baptised means to be immersed in water in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. But discipleship doesn’t finish there, that’s just the beginning. Discipleship involves teaching believers to obey everything that the Lord taught His disciples. So, older and mature believers are to teach younger and new believers in the Lord. This involves spending time with one another, reading the Bible together, praying together, so new believers become mature believers able to teach others in love.

As believers in Jesus Christ, we recognise the importance of teaching our children the ways of the Lord. Therefore, we encourage fathers to lead their own families in daily family worship. This involves reading the Bible, singing hymns, memorising Bible passages, catechisms and confessions. We also recognise the importance of believing parents leading by example, by showing grace, modelling repentance and living like Christ in the world. Additionally, we pray regularly for our sons and daughters, acknowledging our dependence on God and the need for the Lord’s grace in saving our children.

Our church recognises two spiritual offices: Elders and
Deacons. While the church Elders teach, lead and oversee the congregation, the Deacons assist the Elders with the temporal needs of the church body.

Elder (Pastor)
Kevin is married to Raquel and has 5 children. He was raised in Mexico to a British mother and became a Christian at the age of 16. He lived in Essex and worked as a Sales Support Manager before moving to Halling in 2013.

Minister in Training
Dustine lived and studied in Edinburgh for 20 years where he also worked as a chef. He moved to Kent in 2025. He is presently studying at London Seminary.
In 2015, with the help of the Grace Baptist Partnership, we began a series of Bible Studies in Barming, Maidstone. We later shifted our church planting efforts to the village of Ryarsh. After years of labouring there, Ryarsh Baptist Church was established in February 2022 and later reconstituted as Grace Baptist Church Maidstone.
Today, Halling Baptist Church continues to support the church with regular ministry, fellowship and prayer.
Following the arrival to our congregation of some families from the Isle of Sheppey, our church launched a series of Bible studies on the island in 2024. We’ve also engaged in door-to-door and street evangelism and are currently seeking the Lord’s guidance to potentially establish a distinctively Grace Baptist Church plant in the Isle of Sheppey.
Halling Baptist Church has stood the test of time for over a century. It has witnessed moments of profound joy as many have turned to Jesus Christ in repentance and faith. However, it has also endured great difficulty, surviving both World Wars and the Great Depression.
Halling Baptist Chapel was constructed in 1897 by workers from the Halling Cement Works. It served as an alternative place of worship for those seeking a Nonconformist meeting place.

The newly built chapel hosted its first meeting with twenty-two members and approximately 200 children. The “Chatham & Rochester News” of June 22, 1898, reported the celebration of the church’s first anniversary.
Initially the church was part of the Baptist Union. However in the early 1980s, like several other Baptist churches, it withdrew from the Union. This was mainly because of the increasing accommodation to liberal theology which which was contrary to the best interests of the gospel of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
After a period of decline, the Grace Baptist Partnership began supporting the church’s work through Barry King’s Ministry as a locum pastor at the end of 2012. In June 2013 the church appointed Kevin Félix Hollington as their current pastor.

In 2018, the church purchased the unused Halling Fire Station and converted it into their new place of worship.

In 2012, we partnered with the Grace Baptist Partnership to revitalise the church and, by the grace of God, we witnessed an increase. The Grace Baptist Partnership unites representatives from our diverse Grace Baptist congregations in unified prayer and collaborative efforts centred around church planting. With their help, we planted a new church in the village of Ryarsh in February 2022, now known as Grace Baptist Church Maidstone.

In 2015, we joined the Grace Baptist Association (formerly AGBCSE). The Association comprises approximately 80 Baptist Churches throughout the South East of England. We’re united for mutual support and encouragement in our shared mission to serve Jesus Christ and spread His message of forgiveness and eternal life. Our doctrinal identity as Grace Baptists, our expression of Christ’s command to love one another in fellowship and our shared mission to reach those in need are what bind us together.
